Today I have some pretty exciting news! Patricia Velásquez, also known as the Wayuu princess, just recognized Colombia for its hard work and efforts.
For those of you who need a little refresher, Patricia Velásquez is probably the most well-known Wayuu actress in Hollywood. You’ll most likely recognize her from her iconic role in The Mummy movie in 1999 as Anck-Su-Namun.
Today, she is a Goodwill Ambassador for the rights of indigenous people and she is also the founder of Wayuu Taya Foundation, providing education, medical and nutritional assistance to over 450,000 indigenous Wayuu.

[English translation] With the help of other celebrities, Patricia Velasquez created the Wayuu Taya Foundation, where she helps thousands of indigenous people so that they can have access to water, education, and food. She has never forgotten where she comes from and is a Wayuu that was born to forge new paths.I was absolutely beyond myself when I saw that she had sent us a video, as not only have I been a very big fan of hers as a young girl, but she is such a key member of the Wayuu community. So with no further ado, this is the clip that Patricia Velasquez sent us.
“You’re giving work to over 150 female Artisans with stable and fairtrade income. This is so great! This is exactly what we are all about. It is a business that is run by women and for women.
So I want to give a shout out to all of you in the company and thank you for what you are doing. And I want to tell all of my fans to please check them out. […] Let’s support these women because not only is it amazing what they are doing, but it’s just the right way to make business.”
Guys, I am so thrilled to be sharing these news with you. And I wanted to let you know that it is thanks to you that this has happened and that we are able to continue doing the work that we do.
